Position Title: Washington Works EH&S Specialist - (Days)
Location: Celanese Washington Works - Washington, WV
Department: Administration
Rate: $20 - $27 per hour (based on experience)
Position Overview:
OnBoard/Celanese is excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and talented EH&S Specialist to join our team at the Washington Works plant in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Situated on the banks of the Ohio River, Celanese Washington Works is a key manufacturing site that produces over 1 billion pounds of product annually, used in industries such as automotive, healthcare, food, construction, and household goods.
As an EH&S Specialist, you'll be an integral part of the Stewardship organization, supporting workplace safety, industrial hygiene, occupational health, fire safety, and life-critical safety procedures. This role involves conducting audits, providing safety-related feedback, managing PPE inventories, and assisting in incident investigations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Internal Audits & Safety Improvements: Conduct EH&S audits and work closely with the leadership team to analyze results, ensuring continuous safety improvements across the plant.
  • Safety Feedback & Decision Support: Provide safety-related insights and feedback to guide decision-making and enhance overall site safety.
  • PPE Management: Assist in managing PPE selection, inventory, and distribution across the site, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Incident Investigation: Participate in investigations of incidents and near misses, providing support to identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Workplace Safety Procedures: Help maintain and improve safety programs, including fall protection, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and work permitting.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with colleagues and leadership to foster a strong safety culture and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience: 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with a focus on EH&S and safety-related roles.
  • Safety Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations, industrial safety protocols, and best practices.
  • PPE & Safety Procedures Expertise: Practical experience with workplace safety procedures such as fall protection, LOTO, confined space, hot work, and PPE management.
  • Technology Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office, Teams, SAP, and other systems used for safety documentation and reporting.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with employees and management at all levels.
  • Team-Oriented: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, with a focus on safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong time management and organizational skills to effectively handle multiple priorities and deadlines.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical Capability: Must be able to lift up to 55 pounds repeatedly and perform physical activities such as climbing, bending, lifting, stooping, and kneeling.
  • Mobility: Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently and remain on feet for extended periods.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to read, comprehend, and follow operator directions, whether in physical or electronic form.
  • Equipment Proficiency: Comfortable operating various types of equipment, tools, and computer programs, including Web Portals, MS Office, and SAP.

Additional Requirements:
  • Preferred Experience: 5+ years in manufacturing/EH&S roles, or an associate degree in EH&S or a related field.
  • Safety Conscious: Must adhere to all safety protocols and be committed to a safety-first environment.
  • Work Environment: Ability to work in an industrial setting, following all safety guidelines and procedures.
