Job Title: Engineering Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

Plans and directs all specialized engineers working on specific projects. Manages the development, implementation and evaluation of complex designs. Oversees product construction and testing in order to ensure completion of projects as efficiently and effectively as possible. Contributes to the continual development of Hi-Vac's vision and strategy

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Technical - Job Specific

  • Organizes and leads an effective, high-performance team, mentoring and motivating them to achieve aggressive goals and objectives.
  • Ingrains customer orientation as an organization-wide trait, continuously and proactively driving customer satisfaction and demand.
  • Aligns individual performance goals and measures systematically; consistently uses them to drive performance.
  • Quickly develops a clear and concise synthesis of even the most complex issues and concepts; communicates them in a way that creates significant competitive advantage.
  • Focuses on solving problems with simultaneously improves the way problems are solved.
  • Confers with management, production and marketing staff to discuss project specifications and procedures.
  • Coordinates and directs projects, making detailed plans to accomplish goals and directing the integration of technical activities.
  • Analyzes technology, resource needs, and market demand to plan and assess the feasibility of projects.
  • Directs, reviews, and approves product design and changes.
  • Exudes the highest ethical standards and values.
  • Presents and explains proposals, reports, and findings to management and clients.
  • Performs engineering activities in compliance with established company and manufacturing standards, engineering principles, customer requirements and related specifications.
Communications
  • Reads and comprehends instructions and correspondence; asks appropriate questions and performs the instructed task.
  • Effectively and respectfully communicates with supervisor and coworkers in verbal and written formats.
  • Effectively presents information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Coordinates all communications between floor supervisors and management; demonstrates effective verbal communication skills.
  • Influences and encourages a free flow of information between employees and management.
  • Effectively teaches technical and nontechnical aspects of jobs to employees with various levels of experience.
  • Acts as a role model in the communications with employees and management.
  • Holds ultimate accountability for communications within their work area.
Documentation
  • Completes all required documentation in a coherent, legible and timely manner.
  • Produce accurate, legible documentation using the format and content prescribed by the company.
  • Maintain properly executed documentation as required for each job by the client and Hi-Vac
Leadership
  • Acts in a respectful manner to clients, coworkers and supervisors.
  • Demonstrates a desire to progress in the company by taking initiative and assuming additional responsibilities.
  • Travels as required.
  • Demonstrates dependability through an excellent attendance record and timeliness; works overtime as needed or required.

  • Assists in the development of employees to further their ability to become more proficient in their respective jobs and improve their promotability.

  • Establishes a good report with client through ensuring the client is comfortable with the processes and the Hi-Vac team.
  • Respectfully and efficiently communicates with the clients, both internal and external.
  • Proactively seeks out internal clients to ensure they are aware of project progress and any addresses issues or concerns.
  • Demonstrates a complete understanding of all phases of a project including their effects on other indirect processes and individuals.
  • Able to deal with and adapt to constantly changing customer direction and logistical needs.
  • Develops professional relationships with both internal and external clients, as well as co-workers.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in engineering or related field; and/or
  • 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • AutoCad design experience required.
Language Skills
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.
Reasoning Abilities
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in bid, proposal, and contractual formats and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
