Candidates residing in the following states can be considered for remote work: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia.

Primarily 8?5, M?F but willing to be flexible on start and end hours.

Responsibilities

  • Attends invasive procedures as requested by the physician or leadership.
  • Reviews invasive procedure reports, recommends or assigns and sequences CPT and HCPCS charge master codes on invasive cardiology and radiology records in accordance with official coding guidelines and payer requirements.
  • Compares and reconciles variances in dictated reports to logs of the clinical procedures performed and supplies used.
  • May act as coding and billing expert and resource.
  • Assists with denial reviews and creation of denial trending reports for management.
  • Performs pre?billing review of all cases and reviews (at least monthly) reports of pending and denied Cardiology/Imaging/Vascular claims, identifying root causes for non?payment.
  • Assists the Clinical Information Department by identifying coding?related revenue and reimbursement improvement opportunities for Cardiology/Radiology Services and reports these findings to management.
  • Maintains working knowledge of the CDM for the clinical area of assignment and collaborates with the CDM Manager for Carilion Clinic and the Directors of the clinical departments to ensure that the CPT codes, procedures, supplies and revenue codes are updated as necessary, at least annually.
  • Identifies, with Purchasing, supplies that can be returned to the manufacturer for correct charging to minimize lost revenue.
  • Works with different departments as needed to ensure all supplies and implants are accurately recorded within the record.
  • Consults with and provides education to physicians regarding clinical documentation as it relates to coding requirements.
  • Validates charges with Internal Audit.
  • Maintains working knowledge of all applicable systems: Sovera, SMS, 3M Encoder, RMS, Educode and Clinical Systems that support the clinical area of assignment.
  • Must code all cases within 24 hours of occurrence and perform final pre?billing reviews for accuracy following reconciliation review with dictate reports.


Required Qualifications

Education: High School education required. Medical Terminology and Physiology and Anatomy required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated proficiency in coding required.

Licensure/certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, CPC, or CPC-H required.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective oral and written communication skills. Must be a team player with initiative, organizational skills, analytical abilities, detail oriented and have the ability to work independently. Maintains working knowledge of computer systems used for healthcare operations. Proficient with Word, Excel and researching the web for coding and billing information. Must be able to provide own transportation for travel to other Carilion work sites.
