Skilled Maintenance Electrician

Description:

Join our team as a Skilled Maintenance Electrician, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our electrical systems. Under general directive supervision, you will collaborate with others to perform specialized electrical maintenance and construction tasks. This includes testing, troubleshooting, adjusting, calibrating, overhauling, and constructing plant electrical equipment, circuits, systems, and apparatus. You will also take the lead in guiding other electricians on various maintenance and project assignments.

  • Maintain and repair generators, motors, exciters, and associated equipment; conduct motor inspections, replace bearings, and align motors.
  • Repair and maintain electrical control equipment, interlocks, and systems on cranes, precipitators, conveyors, fans, pumps, and related machinery.
  • Respond to maintenance requests for plant equipment, investigate issues, perform necessary repairs, and ensure equipment readiness for service.
  • Direct, inspect, instruct, and train employees of similar job classifications in electrical maintenance tasks, ensuring safety at all times.
  • Install, adjust, and calibrate control devices, instrumentation, transducers, meters, and wiring in switching and connecting structures.
  • Conduct thorough electrical testing on equipment and cables, including hi-potential tests, insulation checks, and vibration analysis.
  • Install, maintain, and repair distribution switchgear and auxiliary equipment effectively.
  • Handle installations of electrical equipment and raceways, including support structures, while performing necessary welding and soldering tasks.
  • Maintain and repair storage batteries, battery changing equipment, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and production crews for safe equipment clearance and removal from service.
  • Perform rigging, blocking, and lifting of heavy equipment, directing the movement of parts as needed.
  • Maintain and repair controls on auxiliary equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Install and replace solenoid valves efficiently.
  • Conduct precision alignments on motor-driven equipment to ensure optimal operation.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and modify variable frequency drives and their programming.
  • Repair, modify, and calibrate electronic controls related to precipitators, transformer rectifiers, and rapper controls.
  • Respond to tasks during emergencies to ensure service continuity.
  • Monitor confined spaces and complete necessary documentation responsibly.
  • Assist in developing electrical maintenance procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Keep work areas, tools, and equipment organized and clean at all times.
  • Operate mobile plant equipment, such as forklifts, skid steers, and man lifts, as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the team.

Qualifications:

  • Two-year technical degree in a related field or equivalent experience is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of applied electricity and electronics, including AC and DC circuits.
  • Familiarity with electrical layout, equipment operations, and circuit connections is essential.
  • Deep understanding of the function and maintenance practices of electrical machinery in our plants.
  • Ability to read complex drawings, circuit diagrams, and specifications accurately.
  • Valid driver's license and compliance with Company driving requirements are necessary.
  • Ability to work safely at heights and in confined spaces, utilizing ladders, scaffolding, and other equipment.
  • Willingness to work shifts and overtime as required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to navigate around a manufacturing facility, standing or walking for extended periods.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally is required, with accommodations provided as needed.
  • Exposure to typical industrial conditions, including noise and temperature fluctuations.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential in this manufacturing setting.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • This full-time position starts at $38.34/hr, with pay commensurate with experience.
