The Mechanical Design / Project Engineer will support the design, development, and commercialization of medical device products, with a focus on vacuum and fluid management systems. This role blends hands-on mechanical design with project ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and manufacturing support throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design and development of electro-mechanical systems involving fluid mechanics and vacuum-based technologies.

  • Design and develop both capital equipment and consumable products used in medical device applications.

  • Create detailed CAD models, assemblies, drawings, and specifications for plastic injection molded, machined, and sheet metal components.

  • Support product development from concept through validation, transfer to manufacturing, and sustaining engineering.

  • Conduct and support design reviews, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM/DFA) activities.

  • Partner with manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to resolve design and production issues.

  • Select and manage external vendors and suppliers, including technical evaluations and cost analysis.

  • Participate in root cause analysis, failure investigations, and corrective actions.

  • Support risk management activities including FMEA, hazard analysis, and design controls.

  • Plan and execute product testing and validation in compliance with medical device standards and regulations.

  • Manage project timelines, deliverables, and technical documentation.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in electro-mechanical design.

  • Proficient in fluid management.

  • Strong product design skills.

  • Experience with medical device applications.

  • Holding an engineering degree.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with consumables.

  • Proficiency in vendor selection.

  • Skilled in root cause analysis.

  • Knowledgeable in risk management.

  • Familiar with failure modes and testing.

Work Environment

This is a remote role, allowing for flexibility and the opportunity to support a leading medical device manufacturer within a large device waste management project.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Minneapolis, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
