The Aquatic Center opened in 1984 at a cost of four million dollars; housing a 50 meter by 25 yard indoor swimming pool. The pool features two three-meter and two one-meter diving boards, ranges in depth from 3'6" to 13'2" and holds more than 740,000 gallons of water. Activities include general recreation, aqua fitness classes, Bobcat Swim Club, swim meets, learn to swim lessons, private rentals, birthday parties and home to the athletic women's swimming and diving team. The facility is open to university students, faculty/staff, alumni and our community members. Our student staff members are certified through American Red Cross and National Recreation and Parks Association. They are trained to operate the facility, programs and events housed within the Aquatic Center as well as support those that choose to use the Aquatic Center to host their event. In support of our mission, our student staff design and offer a variety of programs and events for the communities we serve.
Student Lifeguards are responsible for, first and foremost, patron surveillance and safety. Lifeguards are directly responsible for the enforcement of all rules and regulations for the Aquatic Center during operational hours. Reporting directly to the current Student Facility Operator on Duty, Lifeguards are required to be attentive and proactive in the protection of the individual and the facility for all operational hours. Lifeguards enforcement of rules and regulations should be completed to ensure quality customer service. (Approximately 10 to 15 hours per week) Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following: Performs a variety of tasks in support of Campus Recreation sports and facilities. May be responsible for operational support, member services, event management, social media management, equipment management, and/or ensuring a safe experience for patrons. Certification may be required for certain positions.
Level Summary - Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments.
Supervisory Responsibilities: - Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers.
Fiscal Responsibilities: - No budgetary responsibility.
Problem Solving: - Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision.
Independence of Action: - Works under close supervision.
Communication and Collaboration: - Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks.
Minimum Qualifications - Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements.

Working Condition/Physical Demands: - This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
