Sterling Industrial is a multi‑craft union contractor headquartered in Evansville, Indiana, providing civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical services for new construction and maintenance/retrofit projects in the power generation, metals, pulp/paper, plastics, and chemical markets.Position SummaryThe Project Superintendent is responsible for the oversight of all site craft personnel supporting Maintenance and small Capitol work, working directly with Project Manager and clients from conception to completion. He/she is directly in charge of managing the day‑to‑day site craft field staff in order to efficiently support plant requests for craft labor support, maintenance and other work. Duties include managing, in conjunction with Project Manager, labor issues, development and execution of construction means and methods, oversight of work plans, safety, and management of construction risk and ensuring quality construction standards are met. He/she must also be able to direct subcontractors, ensure craft time reporting is accurate, on time and on budget, calculate material and equipment needs, order materials and equipment and ensure billing for materials and equipment is completed accurately and efficiently.Key Tasks and ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the safety of all assigned employees and subcontractors to ensure the safe execution of all activities, including the strict adherence to company safety policies and programs through communication and enforcement of the Safety and Health Management ProgramManage and coordinate craft personnel and resources on larger projects in conjunction with Project ManagerSupport Project Manager in negotiating collective bargaining agreements with assigned union trade(s) with the Director of Labor Relations when requestedEnsure craft development and mentoring to build bench strength, succession planning and recruitmentManage small projects without direct oversight from a Project ManagerAssist with estimating and preconstruction efforts on larger projectsEstimate small projects onsite and develop budget estimates as needed for Maintenance operationsCommunicate with Project Manager on jurisdictional disputes in efforts to resolve issues with preplanning and communicationSupport the Project Manager with project kickoff, prepare project work plans, assist with procurement, and ensure performance of project including project status, schedule adherence, cost control, change management systems, client concerns, quality, and safetyMaintain strong relationships with Project Manager, business agents, key clients, subcontractors, designers and consultantsAssist Project Manager with Quarterly Assessments and Annual Performance reviews of Key CraftCollaborate with internal teams to ensure customer requirements are met and exceeded, facilitating seamless delivery of services/productsMonitor customer feedback and market trends and report recommended improvements and optimize customer experience to the Project ManagerDrive business development activities by ensuring the work is being completed as efficiently as possibleRegularly communicate with Project Manager to ensure customer needs are met/exceededSkills and AbilitiesTeam orientedExcellent report writing skillsProficient computer skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skillsGood interpersonal relationship skillsAble to work under pressureGood problem solving skills & creative thinkingTakes accountability for assigned workLeadership abilityOrganizational skillsTime management skillsDetail orientedEducation / Experience10–15 years of field experience in industrial and power construction and 5 years in field management positionsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology (preferred)Proficient computer skillsPhysical DemandsTravel will be required to attend trainings, meetings and could be project / site based for extended periods of timeAbility to sit or stand for entire shiftOccasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climbAbility to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federals, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standardsAbility to maintain regular, punctual attendanceMust be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbsMust be able to talk, listen, and speak clearlyRequires sedentary work that involves walking or standing, keyboard operationsSterling Industrial LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, veteran status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, genetic information, pregnancy, disability, protected activity, or other non‑merit factors.Job Location: Marietta, Ohio, United States.
