First Lutheran Church, Parkersburg WV, is looking for a person who likes working with others to fill the position of Church Office Administrator. This position is a part-time salary position of 24 hours per week. Salary is $17,472.00 per year. Working hours Monday thru Thursday from 9 AM to 3 PM are required. This position does NOT include any health or medical benefits. Job description is attached.

Job Description – Executive Summary

The position of Church Office Administrator for First Lutheran Church is a position of service to God, both within and outside of this Church. This person represents First Lutheran Church and supports the mission statement of this congregation.

TITLE: Church Office Administrator


  1. Minimum high school diploma or GED;
  2. Candidate will be subject to a background check.
  3. Ability to handle personal and telephone contact, and to provide assistance to persons/families seeking assistance through FLC Social Ministries (i.e. food pantry ministry)
  4. Clear, understandable verbal and written communication skills; able to proofread and correct all communications.
  5. Organizational skills and ability to maintain files in accordance with requirements
  6. Computer skills – proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, email, and QuickBooksTM desirable but willingness to learn
  7. Proficiency in operation of office equipment
  8. Valid driver’s license.

REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor.

SUPERVISES: Office volunteers as applicable.


  1. Office Management, Equipment, and Procurement
  2. Worship Support – weekly and special event bulletin preparation, etc.
  3. Special Events Support - baptisms, weddings, funerals, etc.
  4. Support Social Ministry activities – food pantry and others
  5. Maintain Church communications/Member information
  6. Maintain scheduling of appointments, meetings and use of facilities
  7. Assist church Treasurer as directed by Treasurer
  8. Production of Annual Report for Annual Congregational Meeting
  9. Maintain church records and become familiar with, maintain, and follow church’s Records Retention Schedule.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of members and staff

Job Description - Details


General office management to maintain smooth operations. Knowledge and skill in the operation of office equipment required. Keep Church Council informed of events. Oversee and recruit volunteers, and assist them as needed. Receive, dispense, inventory and order supplies for office and janitorial needs. Maintain records and filing system to retrieve information quickly. Follow church’s Records Retention Schedule. Maintain confidentiality of congregation members and their activities – unless legally required to do otherwise.


Bulletin preparation for all regular and special services. Also prepare large print Service Books for all services. Order flowers for all services. Maintain and order all worship supplies. Examples: Candles for church seasons, communion supplies, and items for special events (Baptism, Weddings, Funerals, Early Communion and Confirmation). 


Support social ministries as they evolve.


Manage and perform all forms of church communications, including answering telephone, preparing weekly bulletin inserts, preparing monthly ‘First Word’ newsletter, updating prayer list, and preparing other church correspondence.

Make updates as needed to church website.


Assist as directed by Treasurer. Create checks to pay bills in QuickBooks.


Collect end of year reports from Pastor and lay leaders and prepare report for printing for annual meeting. 


Receive a review after 90 days, then annually, by Senior Pastor
